Who are we?
We are followers of Jesus, we are Anglicans, and we are family.
As Anglicans in this part of the world, we are part of the Anglican Diocese of Wellington which, itself, is part of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. We are a liturgical church which means that we follow a style of worship based on scripture and tradition passed to us over many generations spanning hundreds of years. We’ve modernised it of course for today but it means that Anglicans all over the world are following the same style of worship – that’s part of why we regard ourselves as family.
But who are we really?
We are ordinary people who live in Wainuiomata, trying to live extra-ordinary lives. We are families and single people, younger and older, Pākehā, Māori, Pasifika, Asian, and others besides, disabled and able-bodied, straight and rainbow. We’re in school, employed, unemployed, in business, and retired. We are just like you with all the same joys and worries of life. But what we have in common is a shared faith in Jesus, and a joy and certainty that comes with being in relationship with him.
What do we believe?
We believe in one God, and that God made everything, including us.
We believe in Jesus Christ; that he is God’s son.
We believe that God sent Jesus to teach us that he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
We believe that Jesus died to clear the debt we owed for our wrongdoings.
We believe that Jesus rose from the dead so we can have new life in him.
We believe that the Spirit of God lives within us, to support, encourage, and guide us through life.
We believe that Jesus gives authority to the church and requires us to tell everyone who doesn’t know about God that God loves them.
Is this why most Christians always seem happy?
Yes!
